Blackmagic's Singapore office has uploaded a neat little tutorial showing you how to get started with its well-regarded Blackmagic Camera app.
We rather like the Blackmagic Camera app, as our recent review indicated, and one of the things we liked about it was its fairly shallow learning curve. It's pretty easy to use, especially if you've used other Blackmagic gear in the past, but now that learning curve has been flattened even more with the release of a new video tutorial.
As you can see from it, all the controls you need are at your fingertips, and you can change settings on the fly without digging into a bunch of menus. The heads-up display (HUD) gives you all the info you need, including the status and recording parameters, histogram, focus peaking, levels, frame guides, and more. You can show or hide the HUD with a simple swipe up or down. Just tap the screen to focus on any area you want. You can shoot in 16:9 or vertical aspect ratios, and even shoot vertically while still keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio. Plus, you can manage your media with ease, including uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, chatting with support, and accessing advanced menus.
But wait, as they say, there's more. Blackmagic has also released an accompanying video providing a step-by-step guide on how to sync video files to Blackmagic Cloud. It covers setting up a project in DaVinci Resolve, importing media, and syncing proxies and camera originals from the Blackmagic Camera app. All of which is rather useful - even more so as all the tools are at your disposal for free.
