AI-powered Innovations from CES
What undoubtedly dominated the show was Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. For instance, we saw plenty of AI-powered robotics such as, Amazon's generative AI-powered Alexa, LG's talking smart home robot, or Samsung's Ballie personal assistant robot. If we focus on the entertainment sector at CES 2024, we found innovations from ultra-high-definition displays, wearables and immersive audio systems. Let's see how AI plays a huge part in enhancing streaming services making the overall user experience even better.
ASUS Best Laptop of the Show and Wearables
ASUS unveiled its new Zenbook DUO - and it stands out! Its full size, up to 19.8 inches, with up to 3K 120 Hz ASUS Lumina OLED 16:10 displays, joined by a 180-degree hinge that takes the visual experience to new heights. The laptop is integrated with a kickstand and detachable keyboard, which means it can be used in vertical or horizontal orientations such as laptop, dual screen, desktop, or in a presentation mode. On the gaming side, the new ROG Zephyrus G16 is one of the first Republic of Gaming laptops to have Nebula Display with an OLED panel. Collaborating with NVIDIA and Samsung Display, these laptops have the latest refresh rate and sync the processes in the panel. We covered the ROG launch event more in detail here.
For wearables, the ASUS AirVision M1 Wearable Display utilizes virtual display technology to generate multiple virtual screens of different aspect ratios. Its FHD (1920 x 1080) Micro OLED displays showcase 1100 nits brightness, and an outstanding 95% DCI-P3 color gamut for ultimate entertainment. AirVision M1 glasses let users pin the screen at different locations according to the reference in 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9 formats. We cover these more closely here.
LG and the World’s First Wireless Transparent OLED TV
LG Electronics (LG) removes the TV off the wall with its world’s first wireless transparent OLED TV at CES 2024. It comes with a transparent 4K OLED screen and LG’s wireless video and audio transmission technology to take the screen experience to another level. The 77-inch screen size, OLED T, and its innovative transparent display means it is invisible when turned off. No wonder it is the winner of five CES 2024 Innovation Awards, including a Best of Innovation honor.
SONY Showcases Its Immersive Spatial Content Creation System
Sony introduces Torchlight, a new groundbreaking advanced visualization space featuring the latest technology in collaboration with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. This allows filmmakers to create digital scenes before the photography inside virtual environment using Unreal Engine and virtual cameras, including the Virtual Production Tool Set, which seamlessly links virtual environments with on-set production using Sony’s digital cinema VENICE camera. Apple Drops the Date for the Vision Pro
Without being at the show, Apple confirms its footing in the virtual space. It announced the day before the show the launch date for its Vision Pro, which will be available from February 2 at all US Apple Store locations and the US Apple Store online. Vision Pro unveils Apple Immersive Video, an innovative entertainment format pioneered by Apple. This cutting-edge experience immerses users within the action through 180-degree, three-dimensional 8K recordings accompanied by Spatial Audio, providing a truly immersive audio-visual journey. Nvidia Reveals RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super
NVIDIA has unveiled its latest graphics processing units (GPUs), including the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super. All three GPUs in the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series surpass their predecessors in speed, boasting 'RTX platform superpowers' that elevate performance in games, applications, and AI-related tasks, as stated by the company. New Chips from Intel and AMD
At CES 2024, AMD fired a new shot in its competition with Intel when it comes to the laptop processor market. The company introduced a range of cutting-edge processors, the AMD Ryzen 8040 series. This suggests that AMD's latest chips could be a significant challenge to Intel's most recent series. The new AMD chips include key enhancements, such as AMD's XDNA AI neural processor unit (NPU) and AMD RDNA 3 integrated graphics. AMD also claims that its new chips are far more energy-efficient than Intel’s, but this is left to be tested.
When it comes to Intel, it brings ‘AI Everywhere’. The company announced its full 14th Gen mobile and desktop processor lineup, which includes the latest HX-series mobile processors powering some of the future 2024 gaming laptops. Its flagship Intel Core i9-14900HX will ship in more demanding gaming laptops, complete with 24 cores. For desktop CPUs, Intel releases its mainstream 14th Gen desktop CPUs. With eighteen new processors including the flagship Core i9-14900 processor with 24 cores. These are the less power-hungry running at a base power of 65 watts, with the Core i9 model drawing up to 219 watts.
