The latest NVIDIA RTX 40 Super GPUs

Nvidia has overhauled its RTX 40 series GPU lineup with three new Super designated cards, featuring higher performance and memory upgrades over their predecessors.

NVIDIA has taken the covers off the new RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super GPUs. All three GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series GPUs are faster than their predecessors and, according to the company, come with ‘RTX platform superpowers’ that enhance games, apps, and AI tasks.

The last is getting a particular focus from the company, but then AI is everywhere at CES. If you were over reading about AI before, it looks like this year’s going to be a long one…

These units look to be positioned to compete directly with AMD's cheaper high-end cards. The RTX 4080 Super arrives on January 31 for a psychologically important $999. The RTX 4070 Ti Super drops on January 24 at $799, but first out of the gate is the $599 RTX 4070 Super on January 17.

Frustratingly for products that are only a couple of weeks away from release, the full specs are being kept under wraps. So what we do get are a handful of comparisons with older hardware. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super is 2.5x faster than the RTX 3070 Ti; the RTX 4080 Super is 2x faster than the RTX 3080 Ti; the RTX 4070 Super is faster than the RTX 3090 at a fraction of the power…that sort of thing.

The RTX 4070 Super does seem to be hitting the sweet spot. It features 20% more CUDA Cores than the GeForce RTX 4070, and is billed as great for gaming at max settings at the popular 1440p in the latest titles. Using DLSS 3 it’s 1.5x faster.

It’s not all about gaming performance either. NVIDIA claims that 3D apps like Blender run up to 70% faster than previous generations, while Stable Diffusion XL producing 1024x1024 images using Stable Diffusion WebUI by Automatic1111 is 1.7X faster, and the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is 1.5x faster at generating video in Stable Video Diffusion, creating 25-frame content using ComfyUI.

GeForce RTX GPUs can also encode Twitch broadcasts into three concurrent streams to optimize quality and reach thanks to the Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting beta, starting this month (support for up to 5 concurrent streams will arrive in a future update). And Enhanced Broadcasting beta testers will have an opportunity to experiment with the newest streaming codecs such as AV1 with the 8th gen NVIDIA encoder available on all 40 Series RTX GPUs. NVIDIA Broadcast’s AI features can also enhance microphone and camera output, create a virtual green screen, keep users in the shot at all times, and more.
