Teradek has announced the Prism Flex, a flagship, low latency 4K HDR streaming encoder/decoder.

The Prism Flex succeeds the Cube line of hardware codecs. It features 12G SDI and HDMI and can monitor over WAN with a latency of around 300ms to devices such as Apple TV, macOS, and iOS devices. It is fully HDR ready and can stream 4K resolution video in AVC or HEVC codecs in 10-bit 4:2:2 colour.

The system can also be paired with Teradek’s Core cloud platform, transforming the Flex into a full IP video solution that can enable users to collaborate remotely, as well as manage, archive, monitor, and distribute streams to many different destinations simultaneously.

Teradek Prism Flex main features

  • Multi-streaming: Send streams to multiple destinations simultaneously
  • Network bonding to avoid drops and make a more reliable stream
  • Archiving to the cloud
  • Transcode video to AVC before sending it out to CDNs
  • Remote Management
  • Records and uploads files in chunks for efficient delivery

The Teradek Prism Flex would appear to be moving the goalposts somewhat in terms of accessibility to this level of streaming and IP video capability. Not only is it a lot smaller than its neighbouring Prism Rack unit, but it costs far less as well, being priced at USD $2,790.
