Things you didn't know you needed: a LEGO Disney tribute movie camera

LEGO has serious game when it comes to both toys and collectables, and as part of its 100th Disney celebrations knocks it out of the park with a retro movie camera.

First off, while we all wait for the release date of the LEGO Ideas Polaroid OneStep SX-70 to be announced, it should be pointed out that this isn't a working camera. But it is still an object of extreme loveliness and is part of the Danish brick house's 100th Anniversary celebrations tie-in with Disney, which has cumulated in a 4837 piece Disney Castle.

The camera is a bit smaller than that at a mere 811 pieces. It's also at the cheaper end of the LEGO collectible range too, coming in at around $99 when it launches on 1 September. And for that you get a fair amount.

Says LEGO: "This detailed collectible set features a vintage-style movie ‘camera’ with a hinged back panel with a surprise and a film strip showing stills from 20 historic Disney films, a director’s clapperboard with space for the 3 LEGO ǀ Disney minifigures, 2 LEGO animal figures (Disney’s Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Walt Disney, plus Bambi and Dumbo LEGO), and a multiplane camera with three printed screens showing how Disney’s The Old Mill short was made. The set also has a turning crank, sliding matte box and lenses that can be rotated on the old-fashioned movie camera, plus a movable lower stick on the clapperboard."

Okay we're spoiling the surprise below because it's possibly the cutest thing about an already cute thing (and also happily plays into our notions of a Pratchettian universe).

The movie camera measures over 37 cm (14.5 in.) high, 21 cm (8.5 in.) wide and 19 cm (7 in.) deep. Preorders are available here, and if our experience snagging a Saturn V a few years ago is anything to go by, worth making if you want one as they tend to sell out quick.
