Here are some of the stories from the last week that you might have missed, including firmware updates for RED's KOMODO and new FilmConvert camera profiles.
RED releases KOMODO firmware, announces Link Adaptor
The RED KOMODO cinema camera has been very successful for the company. As more film and video professionals get their hands on it, there are more updates and accessories coming out, both from RED and third parties.
To that end, RED released a firmware update in May, version 1.5.3, with plenty of cool additions and fixes. They include:
- 6K anamorphic R3D support.
- 6K 2:1 format.
- 4K 16:9 format.
- Livestream tools and magnify support.
- 4 channel audio support.
- FTPS support for remote download.
- Canon RF lens control ring support.
- Prism viewfinder mode.
- Cross sync support (Genlock 30p, SDI 60p).
- And much more.
You can see all the new features and fixes of the KOMODO firmware ver. 1.5.3 update, plus download and install, on RED's site.
We've been covering plenty of RED KOMODO third-party accessories, such as cages, filters, and more. RED has now unveiled a Link Adaptor which adds a USB-C interface for the camera, and is something to consider adding.
Priced at only $395, the Link Adaptor enables the KOMODO to have a live preview via an iPhone or Android device connected directly. RED also says if you use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, there is wired camera control. You'll be able to control multiple cameras in a network array, plus remote access/view of the KOMODO and its menus.
You can also upload and download LUTs, R3D or ProRes media files, and much more, via FTPS, which is now supported via the 1.5.3 firmware update (the Link Adaptor needs firmware 1.5 or higher to work properly).
The RED KOMODO Link Adaptor is also handy if there isn't WiFi readily available. Go to the RED website for more information and purchase.
