News round-up: Plenty of new things to look at this week, including new lenses from Atlas and Viltrox, a wireless mic kit from Hollyland, a tube light from Godox, and three big industry names uniting to create a single production workflow.
Atlas Mercury Anamorphics announced
These are rather cool. The Atlas Mercury Series 1.5x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lenses are a brand new family of anamorphic lenses featuring full-frame coverage, a 1.5x squeeze ratio with enhanced bokeh, what is billed as "a dynamic geometric optical personality and warm vintage tones," and exceptional optical performance. What's more, they provide all this at half the size and weight of most pro anamorphic lenses.
The Mercury series all feature either a T2.2 or T2.3 aperture and the series will eventually consist of six focal lengths: 36mm, 42mm, 54mm, 72mm, and 95mm, as well as one other telephoto lens that's currently TBA. First three out of the gate are the 36mm, 42mm and 72mm, which you can pick up as a three-piece set on pre-order from £13,749 ex VAT.
Viltrox T2.0 1.33x Full Frame Anamorphic Lenses
More lenses, this time from Viltrox which has announced two upcoming 1.33x full-frame anamorphic lenses:
- 35mm, 50mm and 75mm T2.0 1.33X anamorphic Full Frame E-mount lens
- 75mm f/1.2 autofocus X-mount lens
These lenses are looking fairly big for a 1.33x anamorphic. This is probably due to their accessibility to be used on a wide range of cameras with 16:9 sensors. Distinctive white housing is definitely something that might not be for everyone, but it certainly looks fairly recognizable.
More and more affordable anamorphic options are coming on to the market, and you are getting what you pay for. Make sure you are investing in optical performance and build quality to keep your work consistent. These lenses won’t lose their value in the long run.
Hollyland LARK M1 SOLO Wireless Microphone System
The Hollyland LARK M1 SOLO Wireless Microphone is a single transmitter (TX) and receiver (RV) system that's the same as the company's DUO, but you get one transmitter instead of two. The system has a transmitter with a built-in omnidirectional microphone and dual-channel receiver. Both TX and RV have LED indicators for power and connectivity. This microphone has a noise cancellation technology that can be switched on using control buttons. Hollyview says its running time is up to 8 hours and with a USB-C, you can charge it in 1.5 hours. Hollyview claims that the operating range is up to 656′ / 199.94m.

Godox announces new RGBWW Tube Light TL180
The latest member of the Godox tube light TL series, the new RGBWW Tube Light features a 180cm tube light designed for filmmakers, content creators, videographers, and photographers. The long design is suitable for forming shapes or making stunning light effects in bigger sets. What makes this light interesting is that it can be mounted almost everywhere and in any direction. This makes it more versatile when lighting creative scenes. TL180 features 14 presets of light effects in 2-3 modes.
For indoor or on location, this light is powered by either an AC adapter or a built-in lithium battery. According to Godox, this light can stay up to 160 minutes on a full charge.
LucidLink, AJA, and Telestream unite to simplify workflows
This is an interesting one. The three companies have come together to build a workflow for media professionals that allows users to to access, organize and view data in one easy workflow.
LucidLink’s centralized data repository provides immediate data access combined with AJA Diskover Media Edition, which helps catalogue and find the right file while customers use Telestream GLIM to review the data and Vantage for transcoding. All of this offers great speed as LucidLink allows remote workers all over the globe to share and access data with speeds that are normally only reserved for high-speed on-prem storage. Meanwhile, AJA Diskover Media Edition on top of LucidLink allows organizations to very rapidly index extremely large file systems stored via LucidLink and gives users visibility to the data no matter where they are located, but without the security risks associated with full, potentially destructive, access to the data.
