Canon updates firmware for EOS R5, R6, and EOS-1D X Mark III

Canon has announced a new firmware update for its line of EOS cameras, bringing them capabilities from the EOS R3.

The new firmware update is for the EOS R5, R6, and EOS-1D X Mark III, and mainly improves the cameras autofocus abilities and brings more compatibility with more recent lenses.

Subject tracking is the main improvement, giving the cameras the ability to track vehicles such as racing cars and bikes, and also offers improved eye and face detection, even if the subject is wearing a mask. In addition, the EOS 1D X Mark III has further improvements for detecting people wearing goggles and helmets during winter sports.

The EOS R5 and R6 can now have a custom white balance set in Live View. All models have a safety feature that prevents files from accidentally being transferred by pressing the multi-controller with "Transfer with SET" is enabled. The EOS-1D X Mark III can now use one button to perform a voice memo and image rating.

Finally, the EOS R5 is now compatible with the EOS VR system and the RF 5.2mm Dual Fisheye lens, as well as full-time manual support for the RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM even if autofocus is selected.

The new firmware will be available from 2nd December 2021 from the Canon support website.
